Brewers: Negro League Tribute Game

Posted on 30 May 2010 by James Tucker

On Saturday, May 29, the Brewers organization paid tribute to the Negro Baseball League by hosting a few events at Helfaer Field. Former Negro League players were on hand to sign jersey’s, t-shirts and hats as patrons made it into the park. Jammin’ 98.3′s Shatavia B was on the mic all afternoon hosting giveaways and providing updates on the activities. Even though no ball in the Home Run derby actually made out of Helfaer Field, there was much entertainment as it came down to a mother and son battle in a “Best of 10″ batting exhibition.  The activities were capped off with a Luther Vandross like rendition of all of big Luther’s hits. It was a great afternoon leading up to the Brewers vs. Mets game at Miller Park, where all of that free beer was exercised accordingly, lol.

15 -23?!?!?!? Damn, damn, damn…

Posted on 17 May 2010 by James Tucker

Wowzers… The Brew Crew are currently 15-23 on the season, an astounding 7 games behind the division leading Cincinnati Reds (really?) and have pulled out only 3 victories in the last 10 games. We at MKE Wired just have one question for General Manager Ken Macha, what’s going on buddy? Huh? The Brewers are a far cry from where they were situated last year, even with some supposedly better additions. In last night’s game against the Cinci, even Coery Hart went yard, but still the Brewers weren’t able to pick up a victory, losing 3-6 on the road. Starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo went 6 innings, only allowing 4 hits and 1 run, but it was Todd Coffey who gave up the game in the 7th. Coffey got smacked for 5 hits, 5 runs, 1hr and a lousy 5.00 era. It’s like the Brewers weren’t connecting with the ball on offense either. The Brewers finished with 12 hits, but only produced 3 runs, 2 of which came in the 9th inning while trying to mount a comeback. The worst about the loss is that the Brewers are still 11-9 on the road… Fackin’ amazing considering at home the Brewers suck. Let me say that again the Brewers SUCK @ home! 4-14 to be exact. Either we as fans aren’t drunk enough at the games, cheering our team on or Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun don’t like looking at your drunk muggs anymore, which I’m hoping is not the case since I have tickets to see the Brewers vs. the Mets on the 39th and I’m really hoping for a victory fellas. With exactly 50 games, including today’s once again against the Reds, the Brewers are going to need to do so soul searching for something respectable at least before the All Star break ’cause word on the street is Milwaukeeans are already talking about having Macha’s head served on a platter. Schucks!

Brewers: Pitching is #SMH

Posted on 26 April 2010 by James Tucker

After dropping 3 games straight to the Chicago Cubs and their FIBS the Brewers are 8-10 in the Central Division. Tied with the Houston Astros, 3 games behind the division leading St. Louis Cardinals, the Brewers aren’t having the best start to the season. There’s been too many countless games where holding on to a lead somehow has now become an issue. Pitchers LeTroy Hawkins, Jeff Suppan and Doug Davis are having problems. No other way to put it. Opening Day starter Yvonni Gallardo, who Manager Ken Macha said would be ready for big league ball this year, is 1 -2 with a team leading 25 strike outs. Last year, pitcher Trevor Hoffman only allowed 11 runs on 35 hits in 54 innings pitched. Already this year, Hoffman has 7 runs on 10 hits in 7 innings… NOT GANGSTER. The Brewers need to step up their offensive game, like the 20-0 ‘offensive frustration’ victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates last week and continue that on a regular basis. Offensively, the Brewers haven’t been the biggest sluggers at the plate either. Ryan Braun leads the team with 5 HRs, 20 RBIs and .366 batting average. 3rd Baseman Casey McGehee is pulling in decent numbers with 4HRs, 21 hits and a .338 avg. 1st Baseman Prince Fielder is leading the ballclub with 20 strikeouts. Fielder looks as though he is swinging for the fences in order to get his bat up and running for the season. Personally, we’ll take a few 5-4, 3-2 victories only as long as their wins baby! The Brewers take on the Pirates in a 3 game series starting tonight, then follow up with 4 games out in San Diego(11-7). If the Brewers do what they did to the Pirates before, they should head to Cali with some momentum to keep them in the running.

2010 Brew Crew Ballin’

Posted on 05 April 2010 by Rosebud

Damn, it’s Opening Day already!!!! Winter’s done. Spring training’s done. It’s now time for America’s 2nd favorite past time, baseball season with yours truly and the wonderful Milwaukee Brewers headed by team manager Ken Macha. Macha’s looking start off the season like ’09 going into the break as one of the hottest teams in the league. In Macha’s first season, the team finished 80-82, 40-41 at home and on the road. The Brew Crew finished 11 games behind the Central Division leader St. Louis Cardinals, who they finished off the season with a 9-7 victory over. Macha’s going to be looking forward to having some new depth at the mound with the additions of lefties Randy Wolf and Doug Davis. Wolf finished 11-7 as a Dodger last season, with a 3.23 ERA and 160 Strike Outs. Wolf’s expected to the tomorrow’s starter against the Colorado Rockies. Following Wolf, is former Brewers pitcher Doug Davis who returns from the Diamondbacks. Last season Davis finished 9-14 with a 4.12 ERA, which he’s looking to lower with the help of an All Star cast defense. First on the mound for the Brewers this season is going to be Yovani Gallardo. At 24 years old, Gallardo is coming off of his best season last year with 13-12 record, 3.73 ERA and a whopping 204 Strike Outs. Gallardo is going to be Mach’s go to guy all season long, so the young lefty better get ready to play big thru October.

Offensively, the Brewers still have their main sluggers, Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder.  Last season, Braun caught the All Star ballot with 113 runs, 203 hits, 32 homers, 113 rbi’s and 20 stolen bases.  Braun finished the season with .320 batting average and as arguably the best outfield in the NL last year.  Braun finished the season 2nd in homer and rbi’s to none other the Prince Fielder, who smacked in 46 home runs and 144 rbi’s.  With these two consistently producing All Star numbers, it’s going to be up to 2nd Baseman Rickie Weeks, Short Stop Alcides Escobar and Corey Hart to do some big producing on their own.  In ’09, Weeks was well on his way to having the best season of his career before his injury occurred.  Escobar, one of the youngest on the team, finished with 38 hits in 38 games and also a .304 batting average. In spring ball this season, Escobar smacked 20 hits in 60 at bats, with 9 RBI’s. Escobar seems like he’s ready for some limelight this season at Short. With the season officially underway like right now, most major new sources are putting the Brewers at the middle of the Central Divison, but it’s going to be up the Brew Crew start strong and finish strong in order for them to make it the post season.

(Singing)Down, Down, Down…

Posted on 06 August 2009 by Rosebud

The Brewers are going down!!! You heard me, down, down down… the brewers are going down….

Remember when the Brewers were actually at the top of the NL Central? Those were the good days weren’t they. Before Prince Fielder decided to charge the Dodgers dugout going after former Brewers pitcher Guillermo Mota… Those were just some good as days weren’t they… if fact those days were right before Jeff Suppan took the mound and sucked leading us to where the Brewers stand at 54wins and 54 losses and 9th in the National League. 9th isn’t bad though, seeing how the Brewers are only .009 away from being tied for 7th place. After going to the playoffs last year, Brew Crew fans still have high expectations seeing as how C.C. Sabathia(pitcher) was the only major departure from the team, not including Rickie Weeks being injured either.

With all of that known, since the All Star break the break the Brewers have been going down, down down…  This is a f#ckin slump that’s going to take a lot of cup checking for the Brewers to get themselves out of.    It’s really going to have to start with defense, in particular on the mound.  Last night to finish off the Manny and the Dodgers (sounds like a 50s boy band), Braden Looper grew a big pair to pitch 6.2 innings for 4 strike outs, 4 hits and only 1 run scored off of a HR.  Looper finished with 4.84 ERA on the night when closing out the game Trevor Hoffman came in and threw a solid inning to catch his 25th save of the season.  Going back to Looper real quick, he’s already pitching his best career season with 10 wins and only 5 losses, which is 2 wins away from being tied with his most overall in a season which he did back to back for the past 2 years.  Looper still prob has another 10 good games left in him too.

The Brewers closed out the series against the Dodgers with 4-1 win and picking up 2 out of the 3 on the road.  The Brewers had 9 htis on 32 at bats and scored 4 times.  Poo on the Home Plate ump however because on Braun’s double that scored 2 runs in the 4th, it should have been 3 runs Craig “Whitefish Bay” Counsell was under the f-in tag!!! Water under the bridge now, but sheesh, the Brewers need all the breaks they can get right now.  If not for moral enthusiasm.

The Brewers have today off, but head to Minute Maid Park to face the Houston Astros with pitcher Bud Norris on the mound for the Astros against 2-8 Brewers pitcher Carlos Villanueva.  Villanueva is having is worst season with the Brewers thus far, with an ERA of almost 6. Bleh. Any loss to Houston would be horrible since the Astros are only 1 game behind the Brewers in Central standings.  This series can either put the Brewers back on the right track or send the crew spiraling even further down into the deep, dark, beer laden abyss.  Pitching is going to be HUGE!!!! Getting the bat on the ball is going to be necessary.  Keeping Prince fired up is going to be fantastic for the team if it happens.

Who do the brew crew with some voodoo before the break?

Posted on 07 July 2009 by Rosebud

The Brewers take back to the field today after a days rest and dropping 3 out of 4 games in Miller Park south to the Chuckin’ Fubs.  For the 1st 2 games the Brewers lost 5-9 and 1-2, but came back in game 3 to smash 11-2, but only popped 2 scores to the Cubs 8 in game 4.  Add this to the list of inconsistent play that Brewers have now brought into this season’s equation.  Last June the Brewers went 16-10 compared to this years 12-15.  The Brewers are already 6 days plus some change into July and have only pulled off 1 win. Not the best way to start the month, especially since St. Louis is coming to town for a 3 game home series.  The Brew Crew are a full 1 game behind the Cards, but 22-18 at home.  The Cards are 21-19 on the road so really this going to be a good fackin’ series before the All Star break if the Brewers get rid of their inconsistent play and handle some fackin’ business, or else eveyone is catch  #FAIL, including the Brewer’s All Star duo Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun.  Speaking of the two, there’s some damn good reasons why both of these crewers (yes, i said it) were voted to the All Star ballot.  Prince Fielder is batting .313 with a .439 on base percentage.  Fielder has gone yard 22 times and batted in 76 RBIs which are 6 behind league leader Albert Pujols.  Ryan Braun has smacked 100 hits so far this season with a .326 batting average and .409 on base percentage.  Braun has 16 home runs, 58 RBIs and a total of 59 runs, 7 behind leagure leader Albert Pujols.  If you haven’t noticed this season, Albert Pujols is on the juice just fuckin’ smashing shit left and right and playing great defense too, damn him. In about 5.5 hours the Brewers will take the field with Yvonni Gallardo on the mound who’s 8-5 for the season vs. Cards’ pitcher Adam Wainwright who is also 8-5 on the season.  If the Brewers are able to pick up 2 out of the 3 against the Cards plus another 2 against the Dodgers in the next series, they’ll be sitting nice going into the second half of the season, even without C.C.

It’s too cold to be Hump Day!!!

Posted on 03 June 2009 by James Tucker

It’s Hump Day!!!  For most of us it’s the middle of the unsatisfactory work week where we still have Thursday and Friday to finish meetings, projects and some other shit we just don’t want to do like photo shoots and dinners with the in-laws. Not for all of us though.

For the Brewers it’s another day to take sole possession of 1st place in the NL Central.  It’s the day where the Brewers are top dog, the pole sitters, chief muthafuckin’ chiefs of their fuckin’ division. After getting smacked, and I mean smacked like when you were 6 years old and cussed for the first time in front of your Grandmother, by the Florida Marlins 3-10 yesterday and 4-7 the day before.  dsc_0025The Brew crew are 31-22, a half game ahead of the St. Louis Cards and an entire 4.5 games behind the league leading Anaheim Angels.  And please fuck the Cubs who are 4 games behind us thanks to Zambrano’s cup checking after every pitch, trying to throw an umpire out of the game and then beating the shit of a beverage dispenser on the way into the clubhouse. Kudos, bitch.  What’s even better about all of this is the fact that while Ryan Braun aka Braunie and the Brew crizzle were getting in Cinci’s ass with a sweep last weekend, everybody was out kicking it Friday night for the launch of Braunie’s Remetee shirt co. at Decibel on Friday night. (Shamless plug: for pictures, click right about here!) Look at this though, the Brewers went 14-10 last season during the month of June.  We catch that some production this year, fuck it we’re going back to the playoffs where Philadelphia can suck my dick ’cause technically they’re really a half game ahead of us so eat it and you do the math.

Right now I’m adding up this 9-6 victory over the Marlins tonight. Braunie schillacked a 2 run HR in the top of the 3rd that put the Brewers up 3-0 til the top of the 4th. The Marlins scored 1 run in the bottom of the inning. Ooooooooo! The Brewers finally remember what happened to them the previous 2 games and got offensive with it. I’m talkin’ 6 runs in the top of the 5th inning, putting the Brewers up 9-4 at the bottom of the 5th with 4 innings to go. ::singing:: Sky rockets in flgith! Peww!!! afternoon delight!! All they had to do was hold on. Seth McClung came in a pitched it out ontop of the mound recording the W for us after Braden Looper went hard for 7.2 innings, with 7 hits and 5 runs.  If only I too could have been in that 82 degree warm, June type weather to watch it all go down. I will settle for another serving tomorrow at 6:10pm while I watch Dave Bush (3-1) battle it out on the mound against Marlins’ sling gunner Josh Johnson(4-1), all probably.

Brewers are 2 games above .500

Posted on 05 May 2009 by James Tucker

In the last 2 weeks the Brewers have won 10 games and only dropped 4, putting them at 14-12 on the season.  In a 3 game series against the Astros, Brewers went 2-1 (5-2, 9-8, 2-3), but then followed up with a 3-0 series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The Brewers split the 4 game series against the Diamondbacks after winning the first game with 6 innings of strong pitching by Jeff Suppan.  Suppan finished with just 6 hits and 1 run.  Mark DiFelice recorded the win to go 2-0 on the season.  Mike Cameron had 3 hits and 2 rbi’s for the night.  Ricky Weeks batted strong with 3 hits and 1 rbi.  To start out the month of May, Arizona’s Jon Garland pitched a nice 6 innings against the Brewers, only allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th.  Tony Pena came in to record his 3rd win of the season to close out the Brewers, with a save by Chad Qualls.  On Saturday, the game was scoreless until the 5th inning when Arizona knocked in 3 rbi’s against Braden Looper.  Looper pitched 7 innings and got taken yard in the 7th for Justin Upton’s 3rd home run of the year.  The Brewers weren’t able to battle back in the 8th and 9th innings thanks to the Diamondbacks closer, Chad Qualls.  In the final game of the series, Dave Bush went deep into the 7th inning even after the Diamondbacks knocked out 2 home runs with 0 on and 0 out.  Later on with 2 outs, Diamondbacks catcher Miquel Montero went yard again to tie up the game 3-3 before going to the 8th.  Mitch Stetter came in to pitch for the Brewers blanking the D’backs at the top of the inning.  In the bottom of the inning, Chris Duffy grounded out with the winning run coming home.  The Brewers finished off 4-3 to even up the series.  Last night the Brewers came back from a 3-1 deficit in the 7th to finishing up with 4 runs in the 9th inning. DeFilice recorded his 3rd win after Yovoni Gallardo pitched 7 good innings with 5 strike outs.  After having an MRI earlier in the day to flying out for the game, Ryan Braun aka Braunie hit a single for 2 rbi’s to tie up the game in the 8th.  Rickie Weeks showed off some offensive power with a 3 run homer in the 9th innings.  Tonight Jeff Suppan will be back on the mound looking to even up his 1-2 record against the Pirates.

Strong Arms pull off Win!

Posted on 21 April 2009 by Rosebud

The Brewers are 4-8, tied for the bottom spot in the Central Division.  Right now, they’re on a 1 game win streak thanks to the pitching of Jeff Suppan(1-2) and Todd Coffey(1) to close out the series against the New York Mets with a 4-2 victory on the road.  Suppan pitched 6 innings to get hit 8 times for only 2 runs and 4 strike outs.  Coffey came in to close out after pitching just over 2 innings for 2 hits, 1 walk and 1 strike out,but still pulled out the save.
The Mets were the first to hit the scoreboard with 1 run in the 1st inning, but the Brewers went onto score a single run in the 3rd, 5th, 6th, and then finally the 9th.  Rickie Weeks continues to play above his norm from last year by finishing the game with 3 hits and 1 RBI.  Mike Cameron went yard in the 6th inning for a 1 run hr, putting him at 4 for the season thus far.  Corey Hart got a good jump to 2nd base for his 1st stolen base of the season.
Tonight, the Brewers take on the Philadelphia Phillies who are 5-6 overall, but 2-4 at home.  With Mannie Parra(0-2) on the mound for the Brewers up against Jamie Moyer(1-1) on the mound for the Phillies, expect Milwaukee to offer up a little payback for last year in the playoffs.  The 47 year old Moyer is at 1-1 right now, pitching a 6.55 era with 7 strike outs, so the old dog still has a couple of tricks left up his sleeve.  Tonight’s game kicks off a 20 game streak for the Brewers with series also against the Diamondbacks and the Cubs.
