First and foremost, there are the staples. There is no better way to start off a food adventure than with experiencing what Summerfest is truly known for. First on the menu is Saz’s Combo Platter made up of Mozzarella Sticks, Cheese Curds and Sour Cream & Chive Fries. . Each Mozzarella Stick is a hand rolled wanton with cheese melted in the middle. Served with a side of Marinara sauce, it easy to see why Saz’s serves up to 40,000 of these combo platters throughout the festival. Now what’s a summer festival without corn? Not a very good one if you ask us. Thanks to Anderson’s Roasted Corn located at the North end of the grounds, your buttery corn taste-buds shall not go without wanting. With fresh corn on the cob roasted to perfection you have the special bonus’ of adding more flavoring such as cheddar or bbq. Situated just outside of Marcus Amphitheaters gates is JoJo’s Martini Lounge, Summerfest’s only full service bar. Whether it’s a Jack and Coke, Gin and Tonic or one of the many flavorful martini’s served underneath the big tent, complete with it’s own stage, you’ll be able to quench your thirst tastefully and with style at JoJo’s. When anyone ever talks about fried eggplant strips, they are talking about only one place in particular, the Venice Club. With some Parmesan cheese and fresh marinara sauce, the fried eggplant strips are the reason you’re mouth is going to thank you for coming to Summerfest.

Each year Summerfest adds more and more to entertain guests, so it was only a matter of time for Sazama’s Lakeside Grille to pop up! With white linen table cloths, a wine bar featuring glasses at reasonable prices ($7.50 – $9.50) and quite possibly the best full course meals at Summerfest, Sazama’s is the fine dining at Summerfest worth waiting for. Sazama’s menu includes 5 main entrees: New York Strip Steak, Baby Back Ribs, Chicken Marsala, Blackened Salmon and Wild Mushroom Ravioli, all of which are presented in the best of manner. Even though Sazama’s can pack the house with 200+, reservations aren’t always needed to enjoy a sit down meal in front of Milwaukee’s beautiful skyline. Mader’s German Restaurant also brought something new to the table with their German Nachos. Homemade chips smothered in a white cheese sauce, onions and thin strips of corned beef, these nachos confirm the fact that the Germans also produce fantastically outside of the World Cup, amongst other things.

The treats at Summerfest are good, there’s no doubt about that at all. Keeping the long tradition of locally owned restaurants maintaining a home at Summerfest alive, Crawdaddy’s and the King and I are pillars in the Summerfest eating community. Crawdaddy’s brings in 2 tons of fresh Louisiana alligator meat for their infamous “Gator On A Stick.” With seasonings that make the mouth water, whether it’s as soon as the grounds open or right on the way out the gate, it is always a good time for some Gator On A Stick! For the past 15 years, there has only been one chicken worth trying, tasting and wanting more of, the Volcano Chicken from the King and I. Such a successful meal served at the restaurant, the King and I brought this savory dish to Summerfest for all to take part in a wonderfully tasting dish. And of course, what better way to wash all of this great food down than with a cold glass of Catalano’s Old Fashioned Lemonade. Served chilled over a glass of ice, this Old Fashioned Lemonade will make you wish you had a to go cup just so you could sip it on the way back home. Stuck in the main walk way of the festival grounds, I peer over frocky banged girls, spike mohawk haired guys and nodd with old school players, enjoying a deep remix groove version of Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos, simultaneously urging my Madisonian friends to venture into the fray. Just then PE broke into Anti N**GA Machine. Exhorting every lyric that still comes to my mind, the abrupt fade into Burn Hollywood Burn confirmed the set recapped, in sequence, several tracks from each of PE’s albums, which suited the tracks from PE’s third album Fear of a Black Planet particularly well.

By the time, I excavate my way into the center stage area with surprising ease, Power to the People rhythmically churns and I double back to the outskirts of the masses, to find my feeble Madisonians had already sought refuge from the exuberance. I grab college co-eds at will that chirp about trying to get a better look at Flav, in the spirit of Harriet Tubman, and guide them through the canals of seating to a better vantage point. The vintage hits Bring the Noise, Terminator X to the Edge of Panic, Can’t Trust It and Fight the Power played, but the show’s highlight was Flavor Flav’s rendition of I Can’t Do Nuttin’ For Ya Man, which I recited in time, miming the patented Flav dance, only to notice those around looking at me like I had the holy ghost and was speaking in tongues. I was truly possessed and so was everybody else. Possessed enough to chant “f*nk separatism” and “f*ck racism” on Flav’s cue after he improved a verse of Sly Stone’s Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself Again. Some visual irony could be witnessed if you scanned the audience. For being in Milwaukee that showed how good of sports we are.

It wasn’t the headlining flashing red X-shaped DJ table show of the glory days, noticeably absent was Terminator X who left the group in ‘99, but well worthy of a Friday night. The sea of people was probably more of a testament to Flavor Flav’s new found pop appeal than their love for the PE message, but an overall worthy effort on the part of Milwaukee’s party goers to do justice to the music legends.

Recently, MKE Wired got a chance to chop it up with former UFC fighter Razak “Razor” Al-Hassan prior to his upcoming fight tonight @ Unstoppable. Having tasted some of that high intensity UFC action, Razak is looking to work his way back up the ladder for a piece of that big time action.

April 3, I won in the 2nd round with a rear naked choke hold.

What do you do to scout an opponent?
I find out just enough about opponent but not too much like his record, style, who’s he fought. I don’t want to know anything else about him… the more you know, the more it starts to mess with your mind, so I just stick to the game and go forward with the game plan.

How do you prepare for a fight?
I usually start training 6 – 8 weeks for a fight. I’ve just had one of my best training camps. I feel like I’m in tremendous shape for this fight.

Anything you did special to prepare for this upcoming fight on Saturday June 5th?
I did a lot of sparing, positioning and grappling.

What’s the best thing about being in the cage?
Complete freedom. There are no restrictions. You have to do what ever you need to do to see who’s the better man. There’s nothing like that at all.

What’s the best part about the ring girls?
laughs I don’t even see them. Before the fight I’m in the back. During the fight I’m in the corner. I really don’t even notice them while I’m fighting at all. lol, like we buyin’ that…

What do you do for post victory celebrations?
I keep it simple. I thank the the peeps and thank everybody for the being there. I never get too wild and crazy, but after the fight is the time to vent and not worry about the fight anymore.
